New Arrivals: Henry and Hetty!
Last month, we welcomed two very special new residents to the sanctuary: Henry and Hetty, nine‑year‑old sibling Pygmy goats who have joined us after their guardians experienced a change in circumstances. They were very much loved, and it’s clear from the moment you meet them that they’re used to human company, affection and attention. We’re honoured to give them a safe, permanent home.

Henry and Hetty are the sweetest, friendliest pair, each with their own distinct personality. Henry is the cuddle bug - he stays right by your side, leans in for fuss, and gets so close you can feel his little whiskers brushing your arm. Hetty is more reserved, preferring to watch from a short distance, confident and calm in herself. While Henry needs humans around him, Hetty seems to enjoy taking everything in before deciding to join in. They make the cutest little bleats when we walk away, so of course we have to come back for more fuss.
During their first week, Henry and Hetty stayed in an isolation pen while we carried out health checks and let them settle. Once they were ready, we opened the courtyard for them - and they were amazed. They’ve never had so much space before, and seeing them explore, wander and realise it was all theirs was incredibly heartwarming. They’ve already discovered that they love apples and hazel trees, and they’ve been chatting to our main goat herd - Brian, Tommy, Rockstar and Manuka - through the fence. Because Henry and Hetty are small and very human‑focused, we think they’ll remain as courtyard goats, with the main herd as their friendly neighbours.
We’ve also shown them the field, walking them down to the hedgerow at the bottom to introduce them to all the delicious leaves they’ll have access to. They stayed close to us the whole way, but with time they’ll grow more confident exploring on their own. Both goats are healthy for their age, and through the winter we’ll keep an eye on their hooves. Hetty has beautiful long fur, so she’ll need regular brushing to keep her comfortable.
Henry and Hetty have already stolen the hearts of so many volunteers, and we’re excited to watch their personalities shine as they settle into sanctuary life.
Donations help us take in animals like Henry and Hetty and provide lifelong care, food, bedding, preventative treatment and veterinary support. Thank you for helping us give them the safe, loving home they deserve.
